The Gospel according to Braveheart
Last week Mel Gibson launched an interfaith initiative following accusations that his film about Christ is anti-Semitic. Deal W. Hudson says that the star has been wrongly accused, and that the film is a great work of art. - [

Divided over "The Passion"
The furor over Mel Gibson's film is threatening the fledgling pro-Israel alliance between evangelical Christians and key Jewish groups. - [

A case of premature passion?
It is a once-in-a-lifetime story: A prominent Catholic filmmaker decides to make a highly personal film about Jesus of Nazareth. Controversy swirls around the project almost from the beginning. Critics are damning it, accusations of anti-Semitism are tossed about, people are taking sides, and that's before anyone's seen even a scrap of celluloid. - [
The Dallas Morning News].
Mel Gibson, we have a problem
So much passion about The Passion. Mel Gibson's movie doesn't appear until next year but is already being accused of anti-Semitism and defended against the same. - [
National Post].
The dolorous Passion of Mad Max
So here's me thinking I had not a scrap of religious sensibility left to be outraged. Then Mel Gibson comes along, delicately excavates the last few crumbs of Catholicism embedded beneath my couch, and proceeds to soak them in a fine spittle of hubristic Hollywood derision. Well, I may not be officially of the faith any more, but I still have that in my life that I consider sacred, and this is one thing I know for sure: I'd rather Mad Max didn't make a movie about it. - [
The Globe and Mail].
Gibson and the cross
On the face of it, Mel Gibson's new film, The Passion, appears to be little more than a work of celluloid self-indulgence by a Hollywood veteran. Portraying the final 12 hours of the life of Jesus Christ, it has no distributor, no big stars and the dialogue is in Latin and Aramaic . It's not even certain if the movie will have subtitles. Yet the film, directed and co-produced by Gibson, who has outlaid $38 million on the project, has already attracted lavish praise from evangelicals and stern criticism from Jewish and Catholic scholars, with one warning it could provoke "one of the great crises in Christian-Jewish relations" in the US. - [
The Sun-Herald].
Passion Play
THE NICENE CREED, recited by the world's more than two billion Christians every Sunday, declares that Jesus Christ "suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried." More than anything else, these ten words are the theme of "The Passion," Mel Gibson's new movie. Although not scheduled to be released to theaters until Ash Wednesday, "The Passion" generated this spring more discussion than any film in recent memory: endless op-eds, press releases, debates, and denunciations--all about a movie, in Aramaic and Latin, that none of the commentators had seen. - [

The killing of Christ
Who killed Jesus? For centuries Christians and Jews have debated this question. And it still hasn't been laid to rest. Most recently Mel Gibson is resurrecting it with his upcoming movie, "The Passion," which some critics, who have heard about it or read the script, say could be anti-Semitic. But what do the Gospels -- the only significant, historical record of Jesus' last hours -- say about who killed him? And why? - [
The Kansas City Star].
Defusing the fury over Gibson's `Passion'
A lot of people are talking about Mel Gibson's movie The Passion, but few have seen it. I am fortunate to be one of those who has viewed it. I was the organizer and host of the Houston screening, and with the permission of Icon Productions, Gibson's production company, I have some thoughts to share. - [
